Kaoshing

MY Favourite Places to Visit

Lian Lake (蓮池谭)

March 2009

This famous scenic area on the northern outskirts of Kaohsiung City is noted for its profusion of temples, with the Confucius Temple at its northern edge and, in the south, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas and the Spring and Autumn Pavilions. The lake is most beautiful in the late afternoon, when the setting sun is reflected in the water. Nearby are the ruins of the Fengshan County walls and gates, which have been designated a first-grade historic.

Cijin Island (旗津)

March 2009

Cijin is a district of the Kaoshing city.  You will need to take a ferry to reach this island.  In there, you are able to get around through walking or on a bike.  The places to visit on this island is the Wind Turbine Park, the Kaoshing Lighthouse as well as the Seafood street.  The street sells all sorts of seafood - live and dry.  There are lots of seafood restaurants where you can just pop by for a nice seafood lunch or dinner.

Takao Railway Museum

March 2009

The museum was originally transformed from the former Kaohsiung Harbor Train Station, built during the Japanese rule of Taiwan. The station was then the first railway station in Kaohsiung with the original name of Takao Post. Once the station was closed, the government took over the station building and land on the southern part of the station. On 24 October 2010, the government authorized the Railway Culture Society to enter the station for the opening of the Takao Railway Museum.  Besides understanding the railway history of Kaoshing, the best part of this museum is that you are able to hire electric bikes and ride around the museum as well as the park next to it.  Eductional and fun place to visit !
