This restaurant has a history of 90 years. It is separated into 3 different parts, with at least 12 rooms. Below is a brief encounter of its history:
From this, you can understand how authentic and serious this restaurant is towards preparing imperial food and banquets. If you order a banquet from here, you are able to experience sitting on an imperial chair and be an emperor yourself.
This is an eating street which visitors to Beijing must go. It includes all local Beijing food. Some are really nice food, like charcoal grilled lamp chop, fried Beijing dumplings, old Beijing noodles, etc. However, some are really local and some expatraites may not be able to stand - like fried sea stars, fried catepillars etc. Neverthelss, a place you must go !!!
大董 (Dadong)
This is a famous restaurant in Beijing serving roasted Peking duck. The ducks are roasted in woodfire in the middle of a restaurant and served in very thin sliced Chinese pancake. Other foods served in the restaurant are also very good. Highly recommended if you are a Peking duck fans.
This is the residence of 桂公爺, 慈禧之弟,and is also the birth place of 隆裕皇后 (光绪爺之后)。Most of the residence has maintained the previous shape and to make it even better, there is a tour guide who will lead tours around this residence whilst you are waiting for your food. Most rooms have been transformed to seats for the restaurants except for the room where the queen was born. The original style and shape was maintained. Food served in this residence/ restaurant are palace type food and it's marvellous. A place I will visit again and again.
[Closed]
This is one of my most favourite restuarant in Beijing. Unfortunately, it's closed now, but I still would like to briefly introduce here in my own website.
This restaurant situates in a Manchu Princess residence. The latter part (including the Princess study room, bedroom and garden) had maintained the residence at its previous state. The front part of the residence (i.e. living room, dining room, etc) has been transformed into a restuarant, serving Palace type food.
When you walked in the restaurant, you will be greeted with 2 rows of waitress all dressed in Manuchu maid's clothes. Around 7pm, a lady dressed in Manchu princess will walk into the middle of the living room, playing music with Manchu dancers.
The food is also superb !!! I hope this place will be reopened.
