MY Favourite Places to Visit
National Palace Museum (國立故宮博物院)
February 2012
The best place for me !!! This is a museum which collects the precious treasures from the Forbidden Palace. The treasures were taken out from the palace mainly during the war times and also secretly sold by the Last Emperor, Puyi. They were kept in an extremely good condition that most of the treasures still look newThe most famous piece is a Jade Cabbage...
Yangmingshan National Park (陽明公園)
February 2012
This is a park with beautiful flowers and landscape. You can spend a good 2 hours walking around the park and enjoying the beauty of nature. In spring and summer time, you are able to take lots of amazing pics of the nature, although the place can be really crowded during peak holiday seasons. On top of the park is a street selling traditional Taiwan snacks. Great place to buy souveniors.
Sun Yut-sen Memorial Hall (中正纪念堂)
February 2012
National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall is one of the landmark buildings in downtown Taipei. The memorial hall is to commemorate the 100th birthday of Dr. Sun, founding father of the Republic of China. He had the idea to have a free country without imperial system . Dr. Sun had visited Taiwan 3 times and chosen Taiwan as the base of the revolution. This memorial hall is governed by the Ministry of Culture. When you walk into a the main hall, you will see the 5.8 meter bronze statue of Dr. Sun with guards on each side of the statue. Other than seeing the bronze statue and the changing of the guards in the hall, you can visit the Dr. Sun 's History Room, where you will find documents related to the history of Dr. Sun's founding of the Republic of China. Other facilities on the first floor includes lecture halls and an auditorium. On the 2nd floor, there are Chungshan National Gallery and the Sun Yat-Sen Library. Two art galleries on the 3rd floor have art exhibitions from time to time.
Shihfen Old Street (十分老街)
February 2012
In this area are surrounded with old streets selling Taipei traditional souveniors and Sky Lamps (天燈). You will also be able to view the old train station Shihfen Station. The best activity I like about this area is to release the sky lamp yourself with words of blessings to your beloved ones.
