MY Favourite Places to Visit

Golden Gate Bridge

November 2012

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide (1.6 km) strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure links the American city of San FranciscoCalifornia.

Today, the Golden Gate Bridge is neither the longest nor the tallest in the world, but remains the tallest bridge in the United States.

Alcatraz Island

November 2012

Alcatraz Island is located in San Francisco Bay,  The small island was developed with facilities for a lighthouse, a military fortification, a military prison (1868), and a federal prison from 1934 until 1963.  Visitors can reach the island in a little under 15 minutes by ferry ride from Pier 33, located between the San Francisco Ferry Building and Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

Because of its isolation from the outside by the cold, strong, hazardous currents of the waters of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz was used to house Civil War prisoners of war (POWs) as early as 1861.

During its 29 years of operation, the penitentiary claimed that no prisoner successfully escaped. The most violent occurred on May 2, 1946, when a failed escape attempt by six prisoners led to the Battle of Alcatraz.  The most prominent escape was on June 11, 1962 where Frank MorrisJohn Anglin, and Clarence Anglin carried out one of the most intricate escapes ever devised.

Lombard Street

November 2012

Known as the "crookedest" street in the world, the steep hills and sharp curves of this one-way road pass by grand Victorian mansions and attract millions of tourists each year.

This is the place where a lot of movies are filmed.

San Fransico Fisherman's Wharf

November 2012

San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf gets its name and neighborhood characteristics from the city's early days of the mid to later 1800s when Italian immigrant fishermen came to the city by the bay to take advantage of the influx of population due to the gold rush.

Historic Fisherman's Wharf is the classic San Francisco experience where you will find a range of hotels, specialty restaurants, famous attractions, unique shops, breathtaking scenery and entertainment for the whole family.

The Clam Chowder and the sour dough is a MUST TRY at Fisherman's Wharf.
