The Li River (灕江)

December 2012

The best way to appreciate the beautiful scenery of a river is to take a cruise. The cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo is one of the most popular activities in a Guilin holiday.  Along the river you can see stunning karst hills, bamboo groves, and villages. Look down in the clear river to see the river bottom and rocky shoals. Highlights along the way include Nine Horse Fresco Hill, Yellow Cloth Shoal, 20-Yuan Bill Hill, and Xingping Town.

Although the cruise ship is a bit run-down, the scenery alongside the River is a magnificent view!!!

Seven Star Crags (七星岩)

December 2012

The crags are all situated in or around Star Lake directly across from Paifang square in downtown Zhaoqing.

The limestone crags are naturally arranged in the same formation as the seven stars of the Big Dipper constellation. Legend has it that the pillars of limestone grew from stars that fell from the skies. Seven Star Crags consist of crags, lake and caves. The seven crags, seen like the Big Dipper at a distance, stand one after another around a vast expance of dark green lake water. With the grotesque crags, fantastic caves and beautiful lakes, Seven Star Crags have long been reputed as a wonderful place boasting picturesque scenery of the West Lake in Hangzhou and the Hills in Guilin. There are 531 pieces of cliff inscription in this place. It is a major historical and cultural site under state protection.

The Longji Rice Terraced Fields (龍脊梯田)

December 2012

The most popular terraced field areas are around Ping'an Village, where Zhuang minority people live, and in the Jinkeng area, home to the Red Yao.

  • Seven Stars Accompany the Moon (七星伴月) is comprised of seven small piles of rocks, left when the area was developed, in the middle of a moon-like field. It is a perfect place for photography.

  • Nine Dragons and Five Tigers (九龙五虎) or just Nine Dragons refers to nine ridges, branching off from the main ridge, which look like nine dragons bending over to drink from the Jinsha River. Alongside, there are five tiger-like rocks.

Xanadu (世外桃源)

December 2012

Xanadu is a tourist area without walls and separated from the whole pile of open scenic areas, each to the "Green Wind Hong-Yu, Shan Huan water laugh," the season, Xanadu tourist areas will show a beautiful landscape and pastoral scenery, undulating green group Hill,

Tour boats take visitors to scenic paradise to enjoy the original indigenous tribal dance performances; In addition, the scenic spots within the building also has a hydrangea and folk Daguanyuan, not only of folk songs, and then throwing Hydrangea, drink wine foot step, jumping bamboo dance, but also visit the totem pole, with strong ethnic local color, such as construction.

陽朔十里畫廊

December 2012

This is a beautiful scenery area.  Once you reach 陽朔十里畫廊, they will bring you straight to the river bank where there are heaps of river rafts waiting for you.  Including the raft driver, each raft can take a maximum of 2 passengers.

On the raft ride which generally takes 2 hours , you are able to view the magnificent scenery alongside the river.  Compared to the Li River where you are viewing the scenes in a cruise boat and at a distance, this raft ride allows you to be so much closer to nature.

Reiminder:  Need to pay tips to the raft drivers.

Jingjiang Princes' Palace (靖江王府)

December 2012

The Jingjiang Princes' Palace is located in the inner city of Guilin and was built between 1372 and 1392 AD during the Ming dynasty close to the Solitary Beauty Peak (Duxiu Feng). It was originally the official residence of Zhu Shouqian - the great-nephew of Zhu Yuanzhang, the first Ming dynasty emperor). After Zhu Shouqian was declared Prince of Jingjiang by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, his palace was set at Jingjiang.   During the 257 years from the building of the mansion to the end of Ming dynasty, 14 kings from 12 generations lived here.

Over its history of more than 600 years the city was burned down several times, however it remains as the best preserved Princes' City in China. Notably, the carved balustrades and marble steps still remain. The Chinese Government gave the site national protection status in 1993.
